AEW Weekly – 4/11/24 – 10/11/24
Hello friends and welcome to another AEW weekly round-up. This week we saw further destruction by Moxley and his crew of Deathriders, alongside a few returns to the company. Let’s get into it with Dynamite.
DYNAMITE – 6/11/24
Coming in hot off last week’s surprise arrival of Bobby Lashley, the Hurt Syndicate opened the show. MVP warned that his business card is a golden ticket to success, however, declining the offer will end in a beatdown. Point to video evidence of Swerve Strickland being pummeled. Swerve entered the scene with rage flashing across his face. Officials held him back on stage. Swerve went straight to the point. He wants Lashley at Full Gear. MVP didn’t hesitate to accept the challenge.
After a strong opening segment between the two gentlemen, we are given our opening contest of the show with Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy teaming up to take on Claudio and PAC.
Daby / Cassidy vs Claudio / PAC w/ Yuta – This match does not get to start in the ring. Instead, we get the action starting up at the top of the ramp including a dive off the tunnels from Darby onto both Claudio and PAC. The brawl continued outside the ring for a few minutes before finally getting into the ring and PAC officially starts the match off with Cassidy.
Both Claudio and PAC dominated for most of the match as they took it to Cassidy who struggled to get to his corner to tag his partner in. Darby was furiously awaiting the opportunity to enter the match, but two thirds of the Trios Champions managed to cut off the ring at every attempt. When the risk taker finally got the tag in, the crowd erupted as he started to fight off both men with his signature brand of offence.
As the match continued, it became a more evenly split contest at that point as both teams came close to securing the win. Ultimately the match ended in a No Contest when both Moxley and Shafir interfered in the match. Moxley choked out OC until Darby hit Mox with his skateboard. Darby continued fight everyone off as long as he can until Claudio threw him face first into the ring post. Yuta hit a running high knee on Cassidy as the Deathriders continued the beatdown only for The Conglomeration running in to make the save.
As we come back from a commercial break, we get the November to Remember tour highlight before heading backstage with Ricochet who refused to tell us who his partner will be for the main event tonight. The Hurt Syndicate step into the scene and Ricochet reminds MVP that they have already spoken. MVP insists they are only here to wish him good luck tonight. Ricochet tells them to watch him work before he walks away.
Back at ringside we are getting set for the second match of the night as The Conglomeration are in the ring and waiting for the Learning Tree to make their way out. We are treated to a recap of the feud between Jericho and Briscoe which lead to last week’s Ladder War as the group enters the ring and the Fight Without Honour gets under way.
Learning Tree vs Conglomeration – Fight Without Honour – All six men start brawling in the middle of the ring before Bill takes Kyle to the outside while Keith and Ishii pair up and take it to the outside as well. Briscoe goes straight after Jericho leading to Jericho going through a table at ringside!
The brawl continues on the outside of the ring as Ishii goes on the attack and Briscoe ends up being thrown into a ladder by Bill while Kyle and Keith have gone through another table which was setup at ringside. During the picture in picture commercial the match continued with Briscoe slowly getting back involved and a fresh table being brought out as Ishii started to stir. Briscoe slid the table into the ring while Jericho and Ishii trade chops. Bill goes after Briscoe while Jericho catches Ishii with one more chop before entering the ring. Briscoe, Kyle, Keith and Bill continue to battle on the outside as Ishii makes it back in the ring to stand face to face with Jericho.
Jericho manages to get his hands on a steel chair as Briscoe enters the ring with his own chair. The two men clash their chairs for a moment before Jericho is sent down. Bill takes out Briscoe with a Big Boot. Kyle eventually gets in to try and even up the numbers, only for him to be taken down by the redwood. Bill charges at Briscoe in the corner but Briscoe moves out of the way just in time.
The match continues with the back and forth and various weapons from the ringside area including a kendo stick introduced by Keith. During this Bill and Kyle end up brawling out of the ring and make their way to through the backstage area. At one point Kyle looks like he is about to be destroyed as Bill goes to chokeslam him through some tables, but Kyle manages to lock in a submission on Bill and both men end up going through the tables.
Back in the ring we see Briscoe setting up a ladder on Jericho, but Briscoe is distracted just enough for him to turn the tables on Briscoe. Jericho goes for a chair, but Briscoe knocks it out of his hands and manages to hit the Jay Driller on Jericho. Briscoe doesn’t go right for the pin as he is not finished with Jericho, and he sets up a table to place Jericho on. Once Jericho is on the table Briscoe climbs the ladder and hits a Froggy Bow through the table. Keith interrupts before the 3 count can be made.
Ishii re-enters the ring and helps Briscoe dispose of Keith. To end the match, Ishii hits the Stone Pitbull on Jericho and scores the 1, 2, 3.
We cut backstage, where Mox runs down Cassidy saying Yuta doesn’t owe him anything. He calls Yuta a soldier before running down Darby, and the group make their exit.
Back at ringside, Adam Cole makes his way to the ring for our next match. He enters the ring as the crowd chants for him, before the lights cut out to signal the arrival of Malakai Black. After he enters the ring, this match gets underway!
Adam Cole vs Malakai Black – Black stares into the soul of Cole from the corner before the two men go at it, with Black taking aim at the ankle of Cole briefly to prove a point. The two trade offences once again, with Black keeping on top of Cole to take him to the mat. Cole manages to get back on his feet only to be sent to the outside of the ring by Black. Adam is favoring the ankle slightly as he takes a breather, but Malakai goes back on the attack only for Cole to send him back into the ring, shoving him into the corner. Malakai catches him with a knee strike, but Cole retaliates to keep him down. Malakai hits a couple knee strikes before sending Cole down to the floor…where he gets the drop on him, forcing both men to the floor as we go to picture-in-picture!
Despite his best efforts, Cole finds himself at the mercy of Black as both men get back into the ring. Black wears him down some more before taking him down to the canvas for a near-fall. Cole manages to fight back, taking Black to the corner as we come back from break.
Taking him down with a knee to Black’s back for a near-fall! Both men are slow to their feet before trading strikes, until Black sweeps the leg of Cole out from under him. Black goes to the corner, but Cole intervenes, setting up for a superplex at the top before Black fights out of it…only for Cole to fight off a powerbomb! Knee strike by Black. but Cole follows with a superkick. He goes for the Boom but is caught with a roundhouse kick by Black! The End connects as Black makes the cover…but Cole kicks out!
Both men are back to their feet once more as Black wallops Cole with a forearm strike, taking him to the mat. Cole back to his feet in the corner, but Black blocks a superkick…only for Cole to catch him with a Panama Sunrise! Cole with a superkick, keeping Black down with another before he drops to the ropes.
Black stares Cole down as he takes a seated position, egging Cole on before he connects with the Boom for the victory!
After the match we are shown Kyle O’Reilly watching from the trainer’s room as Cole celebrates in the ring. Black makes his way to his feet and shows a sign of respect to Cole before leaving the ring. Cole gets a microphone, offering up story time as he gives respect to Malakai Black to the approval of the crowd. Cole turns his attention to MJF, promising to get his remaining win before addressing what happens should Roderick Strong get all three wins as well. Cole says he talked to Tony Khan, who said that if both men get the wins they need to face MJF at Full Gear it will be a “triple threat match” (a 3-Way, but I can forgive Cole for slipping up on the language) at the pay-per-view.
We cut to MJF (presumably) at home, making a phone call for someone to be “taken care of” before we get a graphic for the Full Gear 4-Way Contenders Series.
Backstage we are greeted with Jay White who starts to respond to what Hangman had to say. Before White can get into the meat and potatoes of the interview, he is blindsided by Hangman who sends him through the curtain into the arena. White attempts to fight back but Hangman sends him into the guardrail and is hung up with his leg and ankle trapped. Hangman keeps up the attack on White’s ankle even going as far as to grab a chair to attempt to break the ankle. Before he can swing the cair though, Juice Robinson makes the save and grabs the chair from Hangman.
White manages to get free from the guardrail and takes Hangman to the ring, looking for some revenge but before he can get any, Hangman makes his escape and goes into the crowd. White gets on the microphone and promises that come Full Gear he will embarrass, dismantle and beat Hangman and White and the fans will have fun doing so. White says Hangman has never beaten him and come Full Gear he will breathe with the Switchblade.
After the commercial we are backstage once again with Renee and Kris Statlander who promises that at Full Gear she will win the TBS Championship. As the interview ends and Statlander walks away we hear a loud bang and the camera pans to reveal that someone had attempted to run over Statlander. Inside the car we see Mercedes having a go at Kamille who was driving the car. Mercedes demands that Kamille get out of the car and get the job done, but as she does so, Statlander pulls Mercedes out of the car and holds her in the air. Kamille saves Mercedes and fights with Statlander, but Statlander gets the upper hand and ends up slamming the car door on Kamille before continuing her attack on Mercedes. Statlander slams Mercedes into the hood of the car before security come and break up the brawl.
In the ring Christian Cage addresses the security detail at ringside and says that it is for everyone’s safety. He also welcomes Kip Sabian officially as a member of The Patriarchy. He says that Kip was doing everything to get his attention and that most importantly, he saved Christian from making the biggest mistake by signing the contract because if he had signed it, Claudio and PAC would have taken him down.
Christian and Kip embrace in a hug as HOOK’s music hits, and he makes his way out to the stage with a microphone in hand. Hook says that whatever Christian has to say to him, he better get it over and done with quickly. Chrisitan starts running down Hook before explaining that what he did the other week was discipline a new “son”, claiming he took out another voice in Hook’s ear. Christian says that Taz saw his face when he attacked him, but questions why Taz never told Hook who it was? He says that he will take Hook to another level. Christian says that he needs Hook, and he wishes Hook’s father was dead.
This sets Hook off who makes his way down to the ring and through the security detail protecting the Father of the Year. We end this segment with Hook telling us that he will go through them all to get to Christian.
We get footage of Brian Cage and Lance Archer being dominant in the tag division before going backstage, where Don Callis starts to address their greatness before being interrupted by someone with an envelope of cash, a box with a ring in it, and a message from MJF asking Callis to help take care of Adam Cole…and if he scratches up the ring, he can get people to scratch Don up.
Jamie Hayter vs Penelope Ford – Hayter gets the advantage early on until Ford gets to the corner to force a break. Ford gets the opening to lay into Hayter now, hitting a handspring attack in the corner to take control of the match as she drives the former Women’s World Champ into the ropes. Hayter manages to fight back, taking Penelope down for a nearfall in the process.
Hayter takes Ford down with a brainbuster, but Ford dodges a lariat attempt to take Jamie down for a nearfall of her own. Penelope brings her up on the shoulders, but Jamie fights out and hits a Hayterade for the win!
Before we go to a commercial break, we get a video package for Mina Shirakawa’s return.
As we come back from the commercial, a video package highlighting Okada is shown and confirming the return of the Continental Classic.
We go back to ringside for our main event as Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita make their entrance, heading down the ring as they await to see who is teaming with Ricochet. Speaking of, the man who is Out of this World (but not Hologram, I swear!) steps out to the stage as the crowd cheers on Ricochet, who has a microphone in hand as he addresses that someone in the Don Callis Family has had their contract with the group expire…and out comes Powerhouse Hobbs to a big pop!
Kyle Fletcher / Konosuke Takeshita vs Ricochet / Powerhouse Hobbs – We see Ricochet focusing on Takeshita as Hobbs goes after Fletcher on the outside. Hobbs sends Kyle back into the ring before turning his attention to Takeshita. Eventually, Hobbs enters the ring as Ricochet hops on the apron, watching the Powerhouse take Fletcher down before making a tag. The pair double-team Kyle leading to a Ricochet nearfall. Fletcher fights him off in the corner before taking him down with a DDT after a distraction from Konosuke. Hobbs tries to intervene but is kept away by the ref, leading to more double-team beatdowns from the Family as we go to picture-in-picture.
Picture-in-Picture: The pair continue to beat Ricochet down, keeping him isolated with frequent tags back and forth to inflict more pain. Takeshita sends him to the mat for a chin lock, but Ricochet is able to get to his feet as we come back from break!
We see Adam Cole watching on from backstage, a graphic confirming he faces Takeshita next week on Dynamite as back in the ring we see Hobbs get the hot tag to go after Fletcher and Takeshita, sending the latter to the canvas with a power slam. Takeshita is already back up but Hobbs goes after him, setting him on the top turnbuckle for an avalanche power slam for a nearfall. Hobbs is ready to inflict more punishment on his former stablemates, but the Alpha drops him with an elbow shot taking the Powerhouse to a knee. “Meat” chants echo through the crowd as the two men trade strikes.
Konosuke catches Hobbs with a German suplex, only to be rattled with a big strike from the Powerhouse as both men are down…only for tags to be made on both sides in the end. Fletcher sends Ricochet to the corner, catching him in midair for a powerbomb that gets the former ROH Television Champion a nearfall.
With their target in the corner, Takeshita and Fletcher hit a double boot on Ricochet before Takeshita sets up for a powerbomb…only for Ricochet to fight out, sending Fletcher out of the ring before taking Konosuke down. Ricochet goes for a 450 splash but Takeshita rolls away, getting up for a knee strike instead. Ricochet fights out of a German suplex, only to be taken to the mat the second time…but he lands on his feet! This doesn’t help him against the might of the Don Callis Family for long, as they take him down with a Doomsday Device before Fletcher goes after Hobbs on the outside.
He yells at Takeshita to finish things, but Ricochet is able to fight back…until Kyle grabs his foot at the corner. Hobbs drops him to help Ricochet out, a chain of events leading to Hobbs getting in the ring where he takes a German suplex by Takeshita…who is taken by surprise by Ricochet, but it’s only good for a two count!
Ricochet goes up top for a shooting star press, but it’s still just a nearfall for him. Ricochet heads to the corner now, hitting the Spirit Gun on the AEW International Champion for the pin and the win!
The celebration is cut short as Kyle Fletcher lays out Ricochet and Hobbs with a chair, the beatdown starting up before Mark Davis runs down to make the save. This falls flat as the Family brings in Cage and Archer to continue the attack…until Will Ospreay’s music hits, drawing a huge pop from the crowd as the Aerial Assassin runs down to even the numbers. He goes on the attack until the group make their escape from the ring. They stare down Davis, Ricochet, and Ospreay who stand tall in the ring as the show comes to a close.
My thoughts – AEW went in strong to this show and wanted to deliver some solidness to the stories that they are telling as well as giving us some stuff to get excited over. I was not expecting it to be Powerhouse as Ricochet’s partner and I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the talk online has been that Hobbs should be in the new Hurt Syndicate, but my feeling is that we could see a new variant of United Empire here and I feel like Hobbs would be a great fit.
I am still not sold on Mercedes. I just cannot get behind her run in the company. I feel like Statlander is suffering because of this and it is also hurting the women’s division.
While I am enjoying the new Deathriders stable and the building of the younger talent, I already have my concerns since I know that OC is not going to be walking out of Full Gear with the title. I can see where the story is leading and honestly, I don’t want to see Darby as the champion any time soon.
RAMPAGE 8/11/24
Hikaru Shida vs. Viva Van: Shida won with a Falcon Arrow after a solid back-and-forth match. Shida’s victory was a testament to her skill and determination, keeping her momentum going strong.
Three-Way Tag Team Match: The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) defeated Dark Order and The Infantry. Post-match, Brian Cage and Lance Archer attacked Taven and Bennett, adding more heat to their rivalry. The tag team division continues to be a highlight of AEW.
Top Flight vs. JD Drake & Beef: Top Flight won after a quick and energetic match. Their high-flying style and teamwork were on full display, making them a team to watch in the future.
Lio Rush vs. Komander: Lio Rush defeated Komander in a high-flying main event, setting the stage for a potential third match between the two. The match was a showcase of athleticism and speed, leaving fans eager for more.
My thoughts – Rampage suffers from being the show that has been forgotten about. It houses some amazing matches, but due to the time slot as well as the lack of emphasis on the show it struggles to hit the mark that it used to when it first aired.

We get a big brawl as Cassidy stands on the commentary table. Cassidy leaps and takes out the trios champs and the brawl finally is broken up as the show goes off the air.
My Thoughts – A great continuation of the story across the programming this week. It is great to see that AEW is stepping into their own with the way they are developing the story between Moxley and the rest of the roster. It really feels like they are trying to build strong characters and develop a sense of importance across the roster.
