Grayson Waller comments on how Aussie return came about.

WWE Superstar GRAYSON WALLER made his triumphant return to Sydney promotion PWA this past weekend (October 12th – 13th) during their Colosseum 2024 Weekend event.

Grayson who made his debut in wrestling in 2017 has quickly made a name for himself as one of Australia’s best exports when it comes to wrestling talent, not just in the ring, but also on the microphone.

Waller made his surprise return to his old stomping grounds of PWA where in 2019 he was the winner of the Colosseum event by beating out Chris Basso, AEW’s Orange Cassidy and Travis Banks.

After the event, Waller sat down with nine.com.au’s Liam O’Loughlin over zoom for an interview about how this all came about and how he currently feels about the WWE and the wrestling scene in general.

Grayson – “I talk to the boys back home all the time, and it sounds silly, but I get up early on Saturday mornings and watch their shows. I get a bit of fomo. I miss it, I miss the people, I miss the vibe.

When I started to see some WWE Superstars doing independent stuuf, I was like hey maybe. I asked them and the WWE has been super positive about it, it was the easiest yes, I ever got. I had a whole pitch ready; I had a Power Point presentation, I had my teaching ready to go, but didn’t need it because I think with the WWE now. They have these audiences all around the world and having us be able to go back and perform and kind of represent WWE on those stages, I think is beneficial for everyone involved. I’m super excited because in some ways, I didn’t this I would get another chance to work PWA so this is great.”

Liam O’Loughlin “How did it all come about?”

Grayson “It’s been in the works a little bit because I knew Colosseum was coming up and I went to WWE about it, asked them if it was something that could happen, and once I got the yes from them, we kinda talked to PWA about what we wanted to do.

Then we kept it kinda hush hush for a while cause that’s kind part of the fun, people not knowing what’s coming next and that’s something I as a performer love. I don’t want people knowing everything. I like to put little sprinkles here and there.

I know a lot of the people at PWA didn’t know either which made me even happier. So when it was finally announced, they were finding out for the first time as well.

It was something I thought was gonna be much more difficult, but as I said, it feels like WWE is a completely different brand right now. It’s an international brand and things are so different and it’s super exciting for the entire wrestling scene and that’s the great thing about it.

This is great for me, this is great for WWE, this is greta for PWA, this is great for Australian wrestling. Everyone benefits from this situation.”
