Roman Reigns Surpasses 1000 Days As Universal Champion, Awarded New Championship Belt
Roman Reigns has been presented as the most dominant World Champion in professional wrestling over the past few years, leading to a milestone not seen in decades.
As of writing, the 38-year old’s reign stands at 1009 days, having won the Universal Championship in 2020. Whilst also having achieved double champion status after defeating Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 37 this past year.
To commemorate this staggering achievement, Triple H appeared on the June 2nd episode of Smackdown to award Roman Reigns with a brand new championship belt, noted as the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
Roman Reigns joins a select group of wrestlers who have held a WWE World Championship for longer than 1000 days, including Bruno Sammartino, who holds the all-time record at 2803 days in his first reign. Bob Backlund with 2135 days. Hulk Hogan with 1474 days and Pedro Morales with 1027 days.
The longest World Championship reign in the Modern Era of WWE was Brock Lesnar, who held the Universal Championship for 504 days in 2017.
