8 Female Wrestlers From 8 Countries You’d Least Expect

Women’s wrestling, especially in the mainstream, has been held up greatly by international talent in recent years. When we think of some of the more premiere women’s wrestlers going today, we usually jump to the likes of Mariah May from the UK, Iyo Sky & Giulia from Japan and, of course, Rhea Ripley & Toni Storm from right here in Australia. While we may be familiar with these territories and the talents that occupy them, there is also, quite literally, an entire world of women’s professional wrestling to be discovered in places that you might not even expect to have a wrestling scene at all.
We here at pwdownunder.com, naturally, like to put the spotlight on the very talented women that occupy the Australian wrestling scene, but, in celebration of International Women’s Day, we thought we’d put the spotlight on the parts of the world that you may not realise are the host to some very talented female wrestlers:
Alissa Webb (Peru)

“La Super Heroina” Alissa Webb has spent the last decade as a fan favourite mainstay in the Lucha Libre scenes across Chile & Peru. Debuting in 2015, under the name Alessandra, Webb would get her start in the business as a part of the Leader Wrestling Association in her hometown of Lima, Peru, which would also act as her home promotion up until it’s closing in 2019. Webb has since exploded onto the scene, dazzling crowds just all over the Chile & Peru wrestling scenes, in promotions such as 5 Luchas, Generacion Lucha Libre, GeneraXion Lucha Libre and Gladiadores Peru, even getting the chance to compete in the second annual Catch Argentino Revolution x Revolution Championship Latam Origen Extremo event in 2024. Despite her decade long tenure in the business and competing in her fair share of high profile, championship bouts against the likes of Gladiadores Gran Campeon Mansilla, LWA Tag Team Champions El Equipo Mas Bomba (Cris Santana & Eric Fox) and Xtreme Club Fuego Champion Sara Phoenix, she has yet to capture a championship, although 2025 is looking like it may very well be the year she brings home some gold.
With her underdog spirit and mysterious personality, Alissa Webb has proven to be a big name in a relatively miniscule scene and is certainly somebody that is worth checking out.

Sara Phoenix (Chile)

Sara Phoenix has spent the last 12 years becoming one of the top talents in Chile. Under the tutelage of Alejandro Saez, Atemisto, Mateo & Taylor Wolf, Phoenix has firmly planted her flag as one of Chile’s best, taking her skills all across the country and into a whopping 34 of the country’s 43 active promotions, having very notable stints in Xplosion Lucha Libre, Fenix Lucha Libre, Xtreme Club Lucha Libre & 5 Luchas, along with her very recent participation in Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling‘s In AEX32 Santiago event, where she would team with Pandora to wrestle the team of Miyu Yamashita & Maki Itoh. Phoenix’s long tenure on the Chilean scene hasn’t gone without an affluence of championship reigns, having an FNX 24/7 Championship, an LLC Women’s Championship, an Xtreme Club Fuego Championship 2 XCLL Reina de Extreme Championship and 3 5 Luchas Mojonero Championship reigns on her incredibly impressive resume.
Finally getting a taste of international competition, perhaps now will be the time for Sara Phoenix to rise to new heights and show the world what she’s made of.

Trained by So Sai King, Crystal got her start in the Phillipine Wrestling Revolution promotion, before branching out and taking her talents abroad to such territories as Singapore Pro Wrestling in Singapore, Malaysia Pro Wrestling in Malaysia, Wrestle Square in India, Middle Kingdom Wrestling in China and ChocoPro in Japan. Over the course of her career, Crystal has also had the chance to step into the ring with many of the best Joshi wrestlers that Japan has to offer, holding her own against the likes of VENY, Mei Suruga, Emi Sakura & Riho. Competing at such a high level for so long, Crystal has also naturally picked up her fair share of accolades, picking up brief runs with the PWR Tag Team Championships, alongside John Sebastian and the APAC Women’s Championship, as well as a 1182 day reign as the MYPW National Wrestlecon Champion.
Already being a well travelled professional wrestler, Crystal has all the makings of a worldwide star who should have as many eyes on her as possible.

Alexis Lee (Singapore)

Alexis Lee is truly one of the finest talents to come out of Singapore, spending the last 11 years travelling all over the world and proving herself to be a world class talent. Learning from Andruew Tang & Vadim Koryagin, “The Lion City Hit Girl” would spend the first few years of her career wrestling exclusively for her home promotion of Singapore Pro Wrestling, Lee would begin to take Asia by storm, first heading to the Phillipines to compete in the Manilla Wrestling Federation vs. Singapore Pro Wrestling joint event at Historycon, as well participating in the ChocoPro & Michinonoku Pro Wrestling Sawasdee Asia Pro Wrestling Summit, as well as ChocoPro‘s Four Years Anniversary event in Thailand. Lee would compete in another weekend of ChocoPro x Michinoku Pro event the next year, as well as a cross-promotion event between Singapore Pro Wrestling & Dragon-Gate Japan Pro Wrestling and a handful of joint shows between All Action Wrestling and the National Wrestling Alliance in Australia. From there, she has competed in promotions across the world, such as Wrestle Square in India, Phillipine Wrestling Revolution in the Phillipines, Vietnam Pro Wrestling in Vietnam & Association les Professionals du Catch in France. Alexis Lee has also become quite the decorated champion over the years, holding the AAW Women’s Championship, the SPW Queen of Asia Championship, the SPW South East Asia Tag Team Championships, which she held for 486 days with tag partner Nyc, and is currently the CWE Vixen’s Championship, a title that she has held for 2456 days.
An incredibly accomplished competitor, Alexis Lee would have no problems taking the whole world by storm, given the right opportunity.

Madison Marley is the newest female wrestler on this list but she has already proven herself as a professional wrestling prodigy, thanks to the teachings of Carlos Zamora & Pete Phoenix. At just 17 years old, the Copenhagen native has already made waves across all of Denmark’s feature promotions, those promotions being Dansk Pro Wrestling, VALOR Pro Wrestling, Nordic Elite Wrestling & BODYSLAM Pro Wrestling. Marley’s even quickly branched out into different parts of Europe, the UK and event the Middle East, making her presence felt in the likes of Wrestlefest DXB in the United Arab Emirates, Revolution Championship Wrestling in Spain, SLAM Wrestling Finland in Finland, VcV Original Wrestling in the Czech Republic, Fight Nation Wrestling in England, Premier British Wrestling in Scotland and Westside Xtreme Wrestling in Germany, all within the past YEAR. Still being incredibly new, Marley has yet to capture any championship gold, but it’s likely that she’ll have gold around her waist sooner than later.
With literally all the time in the world at her disposal, Madison Marley will surely become a key player across not just the European independent scene, but perhaps the world.
