PWdownunder.com talks to The Tuckman ahead of PWA Tag Race this Friday

Diversity on display at PWA this Friday.

Diversity isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you meet professional wrestler Tyran Tuckey, ‘The Tuckman’. This ‘Beer drinkin, barely thinkin’ wrestler sounds like an Outback Aussie you would meet at a bar, who could tell you the cricket scores over a pint of Tooheys.

But Tyran Tuckey is a proud participant in the LGBTQIA+ friendly Pro Wrestling Australia Black Label event being held this Friday. He will appear in the main event of this ‘Tag Race’ show, a play on words from RuPaul’s Drag Race.

‘At PWA we have people who come from all walks of life including the LGBTQIA+ community,’ Tuckman told us. ‘It’s important to showcase an inclusive environment through our performance and doing what we love.’

The event will help kick off and celebrate Mardi Gras and be hosted by Drag Queen Sidney Rail, formerly known as Silvio Milano. Audiences have been told to expect big costumes and characters, as well as the usual bone-crunching action that comes with PWA shows.

‘What we portray is what we are accepting of,’ Tuckman told us. ‘Having a show that has performers from different backgrounds shows people that we accept people from all walks of life and communities.’
PWA’s Black Label shows involve more swearing and adult themes than you would usually see on TV. ‘They have an irreverent adult tone where you can get a drink and enjoy some 18+style wrestling’ Tuckman explained. ‘The crowd is 100% my favourite part of these nights. Without the people showing up there is no reason to be there.’

Tuckman will appear in a Trios Main Event alongside his Dropouts Tag Team partner Scott Green and Jimmy Townsend, taking on North Shore Wrestling – Charli Evans, Sam Osborne and Will Kiedis. ‘North Shore Wrestling injured my good friend Jessica Troy’s ankle’, Tuckman told us. ‘So I do have a vendetta against them.’

PWA’s Black Label Tag Race event will be held at the Factory Theatre at 7.30pm this Friday, 31 January.
