First Australian Wrestling Pioneer To Be Announced April 19th.

PWdownunder.com will be announcing the very first Pioneer recipient in Australian professional wrestling on April 19th. PWDU announced the creation of the ‘Australian Wrestling Pioneers’ back in January 2025 as a way to honor names that first opened the scene for others to grow and develop.
PWDU considers an Australian Wrestling Pioneer to be..
Someone with influential contributions to Australian wrestling in-ring that inspired others to become professional wrestlers.
Founders or owners of companies that provide a respected and successful wrestling product.
Trainers who passed on their knowledge and experiences while developing standards and values into the scene and their trainees.
One who goes before to prepare or open up the way for others to follow..
Someone who does what’s never been done before, creates new paths of breakthrough and paves the way for generations to come..
Pushes boundaries to advance a cause or idea. These men and women have experienced success in their field, sometimes by overcoming great challenges..
PWDU Content Manager Marek Indyka had the following to say on the ‘Pioneer’ concept.
“I’ve been tossing ideas around in my head for a while, a way to honor past names that have contributed so much to our great wrestling scene here in Australia. You can look at it as our ‘Hall of Fame’ just with a different approach.”
“I think the ‘Pioneer’ concept works well in 2025 because everything in Australian professional wrestling is growing and advancing from where it was decades ago. The audiences, the coverage, the professionalism, the talent, the leaders we had back then who were in positions to develop, train and encourage those who got into the scene or who were already in it, these are the men and women we wish to honor and celebrate. Everyone today is benefiting from the decisions they made and the values they held at that time.”
A special presentation is planned for our first honoree. More info will be provided with the announcement on April 19 and how you can attend. Special limited edition trading cards will also be released thanks to Australian Wrestling Cards.
Jamie Apps of AusWresCards had the following to say on these limited edition cards…
“AusWresCards is honoured to have been asked to produce a custom-designed tribute to the legends who shaped our wrestling scene! This limited-run set will be a true collector’s gem and will never be reproduced. Once they’re gone, they’re gone forever! So, don’t miss your chance to own a piece of history!”
Special thanks to Alpha Trophies for producing our awards and plaques.
