Road to Wrestlemania – WWE Roundup

Hello and welcome to another edition of the WWE Weekly Round-Up. This week I (Raz) am taking the reins and bringing you all the latest and biggest talking points of the week from the world of WWE.
On the mic – Cody vs Cena
Monday Night Raw gave us all the moment we had been waiting for, the battle on the microphone between WWE World Champion, Cody Rhodes and his nemesis at Wrestlemania 41, John Cena.
Cody would start off the battle of the behemoths by addressing some low hanging fruit ammunition that Cena could have gone for in the form of Cody’s previous Stardust character as well as Cody’s lisp. The two men would trade barbs back and forth leaving the internet to decide who was the outright winner of the battle.
Gunther destroys Jimmy Uso
For weeks Jey Uso has been worried about his confidence going into his World Championship match with Gunther at Wrestlemania. This week the Austrian ring general took things to another level as he went one on one with Jey’s brother, Jimmy. Not only did Jimmy end up on the losing end of the match, but he also ended up a bloody mess as his brother was forced to watch on while being handcuffed to the ropes.
Rhea stands tall with the Women’s World Championship
In a rematch from their match for the Women’s World Championship, Iyo Sky would put the belt on the line against former champion Rhea Ripley, however this time the number one contender, Bianca Belair would be designated as the special guest referee.
Rhea and Sky would have a solid back and forth match before the end would come via a double disqualification due to the chaos between all three ladies. In the end, Rhea would be left standing tall holding the Championship as the show went off the air.
Kevin Owens out of Wrestlemania
In probably what is the biggest news coming out of Smackdown this week, Kevin Owens has announced that he has been dealing with a neck injury for the past four months. Taking a moment on the show to address the crowd, Owens revealed that due to the severity of the injury, he will require surgery which means that his match with Randy Orton at the biggest show of them all is now off the table. It is unexpected how long Owens may be out of action or if he will ever be able to wrestle again.
Punk calls in the favour
We all heard at the end of Survivor Series 2024 when Punk told Paul Heyman that now he owes Punk a favour. Well, it finally came to ahead in the closing segment of this week’s Smackdown when Punk finally dropped the request for Paul Heyman to be by his side when he walks into the Wrestlemania main event.
This led to the Tribal Chief being upset with Punk and telling Heyman to tell Punk that it’s not happening. Unfortunately for Roman, Heyman turned around and said that he cannot do that. Leading to a brawl between the Second City Saint and the OTC.
