Tony Khan on Brisbane hosting AEW Grand Slam Australia & Toni Storm and Harley Cameron’s homecoming.
The owner of All Elite Wrestling, Tony Khan, sat down for an interview with Todd Eastman of Wrestle Radio Australia two days before AEW’s first ever event in Australia, Grand Slam. Both men covered a whole host of topics, with the decision to bring their annual Grand Slam event to Australia, as well as Brisbane having the honour of hosting the event, key amongst them. On the decision to run Australia, Khan would say that, in the midst of ‘…our best run of TV I can remember‘, he thinks it’s ‘the perfect time to bring AEW Grand Slam here to Australia‘, touting it is as ‘one of our biggest events in our history…‘. When asked about the decision to hold the event in Brisbane, as opposed to the more popular Melbourne or Syndey regions, Khan would reveal that the city of Brisbane would actually approach the company in regard to running a show in the region, believing AEW would be ‘…a tremendous attraction here in Brisbane‘. Khan would also mention that ‘outside of Wembley Stadium…‘, this year’s AEW Grand Slam has already become the largest gate in AEW history.
During the interview, Khan would also talk about the Australian talent that would be on the card, taking the time talk about the excitement surrounding Queensland native “Timeless” Toni Storm coming home to possibly recapture the AEW Women’s World Championship from Mariah May, as well as praising “Timeless” Toni for being ‘one of the greatest wrestlers and one of the greatest stars in Hollywood‘. Khan would also sing the praises of another Queensland native, Harley Cameron, who he would highlight ‘works really hard on her wrestling‘ and has improved quite a lot over the past year, also emphasizing her versatility as a ‘great singer…a great actress…and she’s a great puppeteer‘.
