What’s On This Weekend In Australian Wrestling – 30/01/2025

Hello and welcome to the revamped edition of pwdownunder.com’s What’s On This Weekend? weekly feature! It’s here that yours truly will be detailing all of the upcoming events taking place across the country each and every weekend.

Before we get stuck into it, I feel a brief introduction of myself and the article is necessary. My name is Lachlan Andrews, I’m based in Brisbane, QLD and I’ve been a fan of professional wrestling fan for as long as I can remember, spending my formative years watching WWE, TNA & Japanese wrestling whenever I could. From 2022-2024, I was lucky enough to be a part of this business as a wrestler before taking a sabbatical (the comeback is always on the horizon however haha). You can find me right here as the sole contributor to the “What’s On This Weekend” feature, with articles dropping every Thursday.

So, without further ado, let’s ask the age old question: “What’s On This Weekend In Australian Wrestling?”

QUEENSLAND

United Pro Wrestling provides Queensland’s sole wrestling event of the weekend, showcasing the stars of tomorrow, along with a host of returning stars, with UPW Recoil #19, live from UPW Studios in Caboolture. It’s shaping up to be quite a showcase as the recently solo “Cutthroat” Luke Silver looks to prove himself in the Heavyweight division against newly crowned UPW Champion and Queensland wrestling veteran, Thirteen.

Also scheduled for the event is the return of a fellow veteran of the Queensland scene, EC Diamond, as he pops into his old stomping grounds to take on one half of the UPW Tag Team Champions, The Sanctum’s (led by EC Diamond’s old rival, The Gospel) BK Calloway. The hits don’t stop coming as the Taylor Boys (Bo & Trent Taylor) look to regain some much-needed momentum, as they go toe to toe with Kulture (Manu Tahi & Moko Kai), who are also making a big return to UPW. After a confrontation during the King of the Coast Battle Royal, the recently debuted “Maltese Masterpiece” Vella has seemingly incurred the wrath of The Stockman, who he’ll have to deal with against “The Outback Outlaw” in singles action.

With a hearty mix of veterans and up & comers in the QLD wrestling scene alike, UPW looks to blow the roof off of their own headquarters this Saturday night. Be there.

NEW SOUTH WALES

Pro Wrestling Australia’s Black Label looks to start 2025, as well as a VERY packed weekend of wrestling for the NSW scene, off with a big, colourful bang at The Factory Theatre in Marrickville on Friday the 31st of January. Combining the vibrant, larger than life worlds of Drag & Professional Wrestling for PWA’s Tag Race, hosted by the “Western Sydney Rat Princess” themselves, Sidney Rail! PWA’s very first Black Label event of the year is shaping up to be a wild night as The Dropouts (The Tuckman & Scott Green) and Jimmy Townsend unite to begin a very busy weekend for the trio, starting with another major collision against North Shore Wrestling (Charli Evans, Sam Osbourne & Will Kiedis), this time with the added stakes of the winning team getting to choose the stipulation for the upcoming Charli Evans vs. Jessica Troy rematch on the 11th of April.

The action doesn’t stop there, however, as the Backslide Girlz (Shay Kassidy & Everett Connors), free from Streamer Capital Asset Management, will get a shot at the PWA Tag Team Championships, as they take on champions Aaron Jake & Bel Pierce. This event will also be the kick off for PWA’s Trios Premiership, with two First Round matches being announced for the event. These Premiership contests will see the current PWA Mounties Cup Champion, Big Fudge, reluctantly join forces with Skater Boi Pidgey & “The Silly Superstar” Billy Preston, officially dubbing themselves “The Unbookables”, as they look to overcome the united front of Third Eye (Jay Sorbet, Ty Thayer & Xander Sullivan). The other Premiership contest of the night will see a clash between the teams of MK+ ULTRA and Tony Sin, Hari Singh & Robbie Thorpe, with both trios looking to pick up a big win.

Other matches scheduled for the event include Ben Braxton vs. Lena Kross in the Colosseum match that never was, The Velocities (Jude London & Paris De Silva) taking on The Regime (Backman & Ricky South) in a battle of Size vs. Speed and Nikki Blair looks to prove she’s no underdog against Jack J. Bonza.

Integrity Sports Entertainment offers up a red hot card on the 1st of February, as they bring Hope to the Saints Leagues Club in St. Mary’s, NSW. A major title match has been scheduled for the event, as Maxx Ramirez, fresh off losing the Integrity Heavyweight Championship to and then winning it back from Trevor Lee on the To The Moon Tour, will make his defense of the championship against “The Hope From The Top Rope” Luke Watts, who is undefeated inside of an Integrity ring.

After an unsuccessful return on the To The Moon Tour, but a successful alignment with Ramirez’ crew, Torture looks to get back on the winning side as he takes on Cosmo Cooper. A rivalry dating all the way back to last April looks to reach a new level as Harvey Falco goes to to toe with Desmond Fielding in a “One Rule” match, the rule in question being anything goes EXCEPT for Fielding’s loaded rag! Jack J Bonza looks to let out months of frustration towards Integrity‘s higher ups and it’s Heavyweight Champion, as he takes on the debuting Vinnie Bronson.

Fans in attendance will also be treated to a Triple Threat match between “Dragonheart” Kai Drake, Beeboy and the debuting “Revolver” Randy Chambers, a battle of Spartan and King as “Spartan Spirit” and King Vance go one on one and women’s action between “Feminine Fury” Maya Maddox and Integrity fan favourite, “Bear Girl” Shay Kassidy.
