World Series Wrestling Adding to their Legacy with Latest Talent Announcements

World Series Wrestling are celebrating 20 years since their establishment in 2005 with their four night legacy tour at the end of March, with dates at venues in Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and finally Sydney. The promotion, particularly since its return from a ten-year hiatus in 2017 has had a knack for pairing high level Australian talent with popular international wrestlers and showing that Australian wrestling can not only hang, but exceed on the world stage if only given the opportunity to do so.

This year, international talent hitting our shores this March include touring machine Brian Cage, Ash By Elegance, ‘The Complete’ Matt Cardona, Santana Garrett, ‘Very Nice, Very Evil’ Danhausen, ‘The Maharaja’ Raj Dhesi, Shigehiro Irie, Gurv and Harv Sihra ‘Bollywood Boyz’, Sidney Akeem and Matt Riddle. Whilst it is always exciting to see levels of wrestling talent who have represented some of the biggest and best promotions in the grace us with their presence, it is worth paying particular attention to our amazing local contingent who are a big part of why these shows are and continue to be successful, so let’s take a look at who has been announced so far for the tour.

Jessica Troy

PWDU’s #1 Women’s wrestler for 2024, the ‘Granola Grappler’, crochet wearing, arm-collecting PWA Champion, will be in action (health permitting) throughout the tour and will be ready to hit the ground running after a lower leg injury has delayed the start of her 2025 campaign. 2024 was a stellar year for one of the top wrestlers in this country, winning the 2024 PWA Colosseum Tournament and defending her championship multiple times throughout the year against the likes of DELTA,  Cherry Stephens, Sam Osbourne, Lena Kross unable to solve the puzzle.

Lena Kross

‘Tallest B*tch on the Indies’ will also be in action throughout the legacy tour. PW Downunder’s 2024 recipient of ‘Indy Aussie Abroad of the Year’ and holder of the NHPW’s IndyGurlz Australia championship competed across the UK, USA, Japan and Australia throughout 2024 showcasing why she is known as ‘The Phenom’. Some highlights of her work this year include her time with Sendai Girl’s Pro Wrestling, House of Glory in New York, and EVE in London.

Jack J Bonza

Ranked number 21 in PWDU’s male wrestler of the year for 2024 Is Bullet Club Rogue Army’s Jack J Bonza, who became the inaugural NJPW Oceania Cup Winner last year. Bonza never looks out of place in the ring with the talent that have graced our shores with World Series Wrestling, with memorable matches against the likes of Zack Sabre Jr and Gunther on previous tours.

The Parea

The Parea (Eli Theseus & Gabriel Aeros) have been the most consistently dominant tag team in Australia, working for top promotions across several states such as RCW in South Australia, MCW in Victoria, EPW & NHPW in Western Australia, World Series Wrestling in New South Wales and Queensland. They have held a number of tag team titles across the country, including MCW Tag Team Championships, World Series Wrestling Tag Team Championships, NHPW SST Legacy Tag Team Champions & OPW Tag Team Championships all being earned in 2024. The Parea will be looking to continue that dominant run throughout this tour.

Ricky Utomi

One of Queensland’s most important wrestling figures, Ricky Utomi also known as RUFIO is the current Pro Wrestling League Champion won in 2024 that resulted in a notable rivalry with former champion Outback Adam, culminating in a Title vs Career match. The Number 39 ranked in PW Downunder’s top 80 male wrestlers Utomi has competed for World Series Wrestling once before in 2017 and will be looking to demonstrate his growth since that last appearance, particularly as he spent a significant amount of time in Europe honing his craft in a buzzing independent scene.

Eugenie

Eugenie (number 4 ranked in PWDU top 15 2024) had a stellar 2024, capping off a year where she had won and defended the All Star Wrestling Australia women’s championship for nearly 10 months, by regaining the IPW women’s championship and capturing the MCW women’s championship. The ‘Golden Bati’ is certainly draped in gold heading into 2025 and expect Eugenie to make for a challenging opponent come night two of the tour.

Mat Basso

Mat was in a tag team match with his ‘Basso Brother’ Chris on the first show back following a hiatus for World Series Wrestling against Melbourne’s Danny Psycho and X-PAC on 2017, completing the whole run of shows during that tour, before becoming a regular appearing on several tours since. Grimm is a former World Series wrestling tag team champion with Erick Redbeard aka Erick Rowan with the aptly itimidating name Warbeard and they held the titles for 208 days until they were dethroned by the current champions The Parea. A decorated tag team wrestler, multi time RCW champion and simply put a legend of Adelaide professional wrestling.

Chris Basso (No.48 Top 80 PWDU Male Wrestlers of the year)

Chris Basso much like his brother has been a ‘Cornerstone’ of World Series Wrestling, who has brought high level wrestling to match his international counterparts in the several tours he has been a part of. The reigning RCW Grand Champion is certainly a reflection of WSW’s legacy and lives up to his ‘World Class’ moniker when matching up with the high level internationals that appear on the tour be it in a tag team, or in singles competition showing how good Australian professional wrestling is and how we can more than hold our own against the best.

Bobby Bishop

Bobby Bishop is as his moniker suggests:  ‘Undeniable’.  Even this publication has ranked him higher each of the last three rankings for PWDU Male Wrestler of the year. Bobby is a proud representative of Queensland wrestling interstate, happy to demonstrate that wrestling in the sunshine state is often unfairly slept on both in the ring and in the gym, with Three Count Pro Wrestling Academy one of his many success stories. The current Wide Bay Pro Wrestling champion was involved in notable rivalries with Jesse Daniels and Yeet Stevens with a dog collar and three stages of hell match on his 2024 record because of these feuds. Expect Bobby Bishop to show why he and Queensland Wrestling are undeniable.

So there you have it a great selection so far of great Australian wrestling talent who are a part of World Series Wrestling’s legacy tour in March and who will help showcase the legacy of the promotion: building up the local talent and creating opportunities to demonstrate that Australian Wrestling is of the highest standard.
