Mitch McCarthy Retires
Queensland veteran ‘Smashface’ Mitch McCarthy has retired from professional wrestling effective immediately. Pro Wrestling League have announced the former PWL champion has called time on his in-ring career due to mounting injuries and impending surgery.
Originally known as Deacon Starr on the Queensland wrestling scene, McCarthy would have his first match back in 2003, his last match took place this past weekend at Atomic Pro Wrestling in Toowoomba. His opponent was Renegade. Over his 20 year wrestling career McCarthy worked for promotions like Venom Pro Wrestling, Pacific Pro Wrestling, PWA Queensland, Pro Wrestling League, Australian Wrestling Alliance, among others.
Wrestle Radio Australia host and Wide-Bay Pro Wrestling’s Todd Eastman posted the following on facebook..
“In 2019 when we were merging AWA & PWL there was no real debate who that first champion should be, it was Mitch McCarthy. The lad works hard, does things the right way and is just a good human being. Aside from that for a good amount of time he’s been my road wife to shows we were on together and a man that when you need some good advice isn’t far away. Although his in ring career is over (which sucks because we wanted to retire you…jks) I know his influence will still be felt for years to come with the resurgence of Queensland wrestling.
Above all else Smashy thank you for being a good brother and a great friend, I love you mate.”
