AEW Week in Review 14/10/24 – 20/10/24

Welcome to a brand new, AEW Week in Review. This week we have a massive amount of action from AEW including Dynamite, Rampage, Collision and Battle of The Belts, so let’s jump right in.

DYNAMITE – 16/10/24 We start the show with a recap from the fallout from WrestleDream after the brutal assault on former AEW World Champion, Bryan Danielson. We are then treated to Moxley narrating the video package and addressing the situation relaying that this will be the new paradigm.

Adam Cole addresses the masses.

After we enter the arena our first point of call for the fans inside the arena is to hear from Adam Cole who returned at WrestleDream. The crowd is obviously intrigued by what Adam has to say and is awaiting an explanation for his actions.

Adam addresses the elephant in the room (Devil storyline and turning on MJF) He states that he could come out and talk about how great it is to be back, but he wants everyone to know that the reason he did what he did to MJF was because he knew that it would only be a matter of time before MJF turned on him. Adam reiterates that he is coming for MJF and that if it is the last thing he ever does, he will get his hands on MJF and make him pay.

Cue MJF’s entrance music but as per the cocky heel that MJF is, he does not come out into the arena. Instead, we are greeted to MJF on the screen. MJF looks to be in the comfort of his home and is enjoying a nice glass of red wine as he brings up the fact that Adam left him with a void in his guts. MJF says that because of Adam he will never trust anyone again. He also says that he will never give Adam the satisfaction of facing him in the ring. He may dangle the carrot from time to time, just as a tease. But Adam will never set foot in the ring with MJF ever again.

Jericho wants another shot!

We see a video with Jericho from backstage after his loss at Wrestledream. Jericho says that he feels vindicated, but he also wants another shot at becoming the ROH World Champion. We come to the live backstage area and we are greeted with Mark Briscoe who accepts Jericho’s challenge but calls for a “Ladder War” next week on Dynamite.

FTR Back in action

Our first match of the night sees FTR back in action after a recent hiatus due to the hurricanes that have been battering the North Carolina. FTR take out the win over Big Bill and Brian Keith. We are shown LFI are in the backstage area watching the match. Everyone’s new favourite retro tag team, The Outrunners come out to the ring to hang out with FTR and then bust out the muscle shake with FTR.

Merecedes best match to date in AEW

Queen Aminata is going to be a star very very soon and this match showcased exactly why. She gave Mercedes the best match we have seen from Mone so far in AEW. Unfortunately, Aminata doesn’t walk out with the victory here, however she definitely showed why she will be one to watch over the next few years.

Private Party vs Young Bucks recap video package is aired before we come back live to Private Party demanding another shot at the tag titles. The Bucks enter the picture and say that Party are definitely a quality team, but there is no way they are getting another shot.

We then get another segment featuring The Elite, this time we are there to celebrate Kenny’s birthday. The Elite have bought Kenny a cake, but Jack Perry pours offal all over the cake and then says for Kenny to get better, or die, he doesn’t care.

Conglomeration in trios action

Back in the arena we are set for trios action as The Conglomeration take on The Elite. Halfway through the match Wheeler Yuta comes into the ring and takes out Orange Cassidy and the rest of the BCC come to the ring to take out the rest of The Conglomeration.

The Elite are standing at the bottom of the entrance ramp as the attack continues. Top Flight and Dark Order come out from the back and try to make the save as The Elite walk away.

Moxley gets on the mic and declares war on AEW and says that what we have just seen is the price of doing business.

Elite are shown backstage and Garcia and Private Party get up in their faces for not standing up and defending AEW.

Swerve Strickland video package is shown.

Shelton debuts in the ring

Shelton Benjamin vs Lio Rush is up next, and Shelton definitely shows why he was drafted by MVP. Lio looks like an eight-year-old child in size compared to Shelton in this match. At one point in the match, Shelton rag dolls Lio into the corner and Lio just slides between the ropes to the outside. A solid showcase destruction of Lio takes place in this match and Shelton picks up the win, MVP gets on the mic and tells Swerve that this is in his future. MVP asks Swerve to face Shelton in a match.

Darby / Tony Hawk collaboration signed photo announce for purchase on AEWShop.

Swerve is shown backstage and accepts the match against Shelton

Callis Family Press Conference

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and calls Don Callis out for his press conference. Callis comes out to the ring with Brian Cage and a new look Lance Archer. Callis says that this is the strongest that the family has ever been. He calls Takeshita out to the ring, and they announce that Takeshita will be taking the International Title to all corners of the globe. Next up he calls out Kyle Fletcher who refuses to explain why he turned his back on Ospreay.

Mariah May is backstage and gives an impassioned promo about how no one is worthy of her time. Anna Jay steps up to Mariah and confronts her. Mariah attempts to slap Anna, but Anna blocks it and goes to slap Mariah but Mariah ducks and Anna hits Christopher Daniels instead.

Next up we get Ricochet issuing an open challenge for Collision.

After this we are shown BCC laying waste to the faces of AEW before getting into their truck and leaving the arena. Dark Order’s Evil Uno gets into the camera and says he is sick of it and that DO has been here since day one and they are not going to stand for this. Top Flight declare they are coming for war.

Main Event Jay White

For the main event of Dynamite, we get to see Jay White take on Christian Cage as part of his revenge tour after injury. During the match we get interference from both Kip Sabian who is trying to get the attention of Christian and Hangman Page who hits a Buckshot on Jay to cost him the match.

That does it for Dynamite this week. We have some interesting things coming out of this show and leading into the rest of the week. We also setup some great matches for the upcoming weeks on Dynamite.

RAMPAGE 18/10/24

Not too much discuss coming out of Rampage. We did see some slight further advancement of stories towards the upcoming shows.

COLLISION / BATTLE OF THE BELTS 19/10/24

This week we had 3 hours of pro wrestling on TNT on Saturday Night with Collision and Battle of the Belts 12.

Opening the show Moxley runs a promo alongside the BCC. Mox says that the AEW Title is not for anyone and it is a symbol of everything he hates. He also says that Top Flight will get a trios championship match tonight.

Ricochet Open Challenge

We are going right into the action to start out Collision this week as Ricochet takes on AR Fox in his open challenge. Tony Schiavone breaks down the history between Ricochet and AR Fox on the commentary noting that the two gentlemen have a storied history on the independent scene. The match itself is a showcase of both men’s crazy styling and work ethic. At one point in the match AR Fox hits a Shooting Star Press on the outside after running up the ring post. Unfortunately for AR Fox, he was out wrestled tonight as Ricochet picks up the pinfall. After the match, Ricochet gets on the mic and declares that Takeshita has stuck his nose in Ricochet’s business for the last time and no matter where Takeshita goes, Ricochet will show up until he gets his International Championship match.

Going backstage we get Private Party and Daniel Garcia calling out The Elite for their actions this past Wednesday on Dynamite. Garcia says that The Elite are complicit in the actions of the BCC, Kassidy says no they aren’t complicit, they are complacent cowards and make it known that they want the tag titles.

Statlander dominates Harley

Our second match of the night is a women’s match with Tony confirming that Cameron is competing in her 18th match on the roster while Statlander has competed in 91 matches. Harley gets a couple of close calls however Statlander gets the win here. Statlander makes it known that she is the strongest woman on the roster and wants Kamille to step up and take her on.

It’s time to PAAAAAARRRTTTTYYYY

Private Party and Daniel Garcia are out next to take on the Premier Athletes in trios action. A match of solid action is what got from all involved in this one. Garcia and Private Party take out the win and then go and party with the crowd in the front row.

Jake Roberts narrates a video package for LFI before we get back to action with Orange Cassidy.

Blink and you’ll miss it

OC is facing Bulk Bronson of the Iron Savages. The introductions are longer than the entire match here as Cassidy hits an Orange Punch and Beachbreak and gets the pin.

Hayters gonna hate

After the commercial break, we are going straight back into the ring where Jamie Hayter makes short work out of Brooke Havok who is having her 5th match as a part of AEW. Tony notes that this is the first match for Jamie since the attack from Penelope Ford a few weeks back. Jamie takes the win tonight and as she is celebrating; Penelope appears on the screen and says that the reason she attacked Hayter is because the last time we saw Ford, Hayter was her partner and when Hayter came back she got a parade, meanwhile Ford got nothing.

Lexi Nair is shown with Private Party and Daniel Garcia enjoying their win when Orange Cassidy walks into the shot. Garcia says that OC has been there before and he needs to step up. OC says yes he has been there before and that every time he has been in the ring with the BCC he has changed. He says that he is “Not That Guy”

Arena Mexico rematch

This match is a rematch from Kyle Fletcher defending the ROH TV Title against Atlantis Jr a few months ago in Arena Mexico. Kyle is showcasing a meaner demeanor now and posing down to the crowd after throwing Atlantis Jr around. Atlantis Jr gets his mask ripped during the match which to any luchador can be very distracting. At one point Kyle goes out to a fan who is taunting him by chanting Ospreay. Kyle fake outs a punch to the fan and then jumps onto the apron and hits the crotch chop to the fan which got a good reaction from the rest of the crowd. Kyle hits a top turnbuckle neck breaker and secures the win. After the match Kyle confirms that this Wednesday he will be ready to talk.

The House Always Wins

After a significant absence the House of Black are back in action and ready to make an offering to the black throne. Alpha Zo / Chris Nastyy and Olumide and the sacrificial lambs on the menu tonight. The HOB is dominant as always mind you Olumide gets some great kicks in before being completely destroyed by the HOB. Tony Schiavone confirms that the HOB will be in action this coming Wednesday on Dynamite

Lexi Nair is backstage with Thunder Rosa who provides an update on her injury. Harley Cameron interrupts and gets taken out by Thunder.

Outrunners vs LFI is up next, and the Outrunners are the current favourite retro act which is getting over massiely with the crowd. After a wild match that clocks in just under 10 minutes, the LFI get the pinfall and continue to attack the Outrunners. FTR come out to the ring to make the save. Clearing the ring of LFI, FTR and Outrunners celebrate in the ring with a muscle shake.

Sammy Guevara video package is shown with an announcement at the end that this coming Wednesday night we will see Sammy take on Selton Benjamin for the first time ever.

Trios of decimation

Collision Main Event = BCC vs Top Flight – Trios Championship

BCC makes their typical entrance through the crowd to defend the trios titles against Top Flight / Action Andretti. Top Flight didn’t come here tonight to mess around. They came to take the challenge and hopefully walk out with the Trios Championship. However this is a different BCC than what we are used to. This BCC is more methodical and more dedicated to the annihilation of AEW and the talent. The crowd has turned it’s back on Wheeler Yuta as when he got tagged in, the chorus of boos rung out in the arena. PAC gets the pin on Action Andretti and retain their titles.

The BCC continue to attack Top Flight and Andretti after the match as Moxley and Shafir make their way to ringside. Moxley gets into the ring and takes out Andretti as the show comes to a close.

This is not the end though, because tonight we also have Battle of the Belts which takes place right after Collision and as we start the stow Claudio is on the top of the ramp and about to hit Dante Martin with the neutralizer on the stage, when John Silver runs out from the back and clocks Claudio with it.

The rest of Dark Order run to the ring and try to save Top Flight, only to end up on the wrong end of a beat down from the BCC. Moxley gets on the mic and declares that the Trios Championship is on the line right now against Dark Order.

Dark Order vs BCC – Trios Championship

John Silver is the only man from Dark Order in the match right from the start and is getting a beating of a lifetime handed to him from the members of the Trios Champions. At one-point Evil Uno tries to make the save on the pinfall, is dragged out of the ring. Silver manages to eventually get a tag to Alex Reynolds who is bandaged up. Reynolds does not get any offence in and eventually taps out to a Claudio Sharpshooter.

The BCC continues the attack on Dark Order after the match until Private Party and Garcia make the save. Orange Cassidy is seen at the bottom of the ramp but is unsure of what he can do to help and then just walks to the back.

Kazuchika Okada vs Kyle O’Reilly – Continental Championship

As with all Continental Championship matches, no seconds and no interference are allowed in this match which means neither The Elite nor The Conglomeration can accompany either man to ringside or get involved. A solid back and forth match between both men and Okada showing a glimpse of why he was the trusted and go to guy in NJPW. Okada hits the rainmaker on a spent O’Reilly and scores the pinfall retaining his Continental Championship.

Mariah May vs Anna Jay video package is shown.

Don Callis Family (Brian Cage / Lance Archer) vs Jack Cartwheel and Jon Cruz

Cartwheel starts the match against Cage and tries to handshake only to get shouldered by Cage. Cartwheel gets zero offence in, and Cage throws him into the corner and wants Cruz to tag in. Cruz refuses to tag, and Cage takes a swipe at him. Cruz ducks and goes to hit Cage only for Cage to grab his hand and force the tag with Cartwheel. Cruz gets flipped over the rope to enter the ring and tries to chop Cage to which Cage just shrugs it off. Archer gets the tag from Cage and he clotheslines the crap out of Cruz from the top rope. After a short double team, Archer hits the blackout / powerbomb combo and Cage gets the pin.

Mariah May vs Anna Jay – Women’s World Championship Eliminator

Battle of the Belts main event is upon us, and we see Anna Jay taking on Mariah May in an eliminator match for her chance to get a championship match. Anna Jay scores an upset victory in this match allowing for her to have a Women’s World Championship match on November 2nd on Collision.

Battle of the Belts highlights.
