Tuesday Morning RAW September 17th
RAW: 17/09/2024
Channel: Foxtel WWE Channel/Kayo/Binge
With Bad Blood getting closer Raw put on another great show. Judgement Day defended their titles for the first time against the New Day and Damage CTRL looked for their title shot as Iyo Sky faced Bianca Belair. We also get more destruction with Bronson Reed and Braun Strowman and build in the Judgement Day and Terror Twins feud.
Pete Dunne VS Sheamus
The first match of the show would be between Sheamus and Pete Dunne as they continue their rivalry. Before the match started Sheamus would encourage that the crowd didn’t call Pete Dunne Butch as it seems to be a sensitive topic for Pete Dunne. Dunne would manage to battle through the crowd’s constant chanting of Butch as he would be able to kick out of a power slam from the second rope delivered by Sheamus. Pete would use this opportunity to reach for the shillelagh beside the ring as he would attack Sheamus who stopped him with a big knee. The referee would get distracted by the Shillelagh as he’d take it outside the ring Pete Dunne would find a cricket bat under the ring that he would use to take out Sheamus and get the win with. While this feud isn’t over seeing Pete Dunne get the win over Sheamus was great to see considering the great performances he’s been putting on in both NXT and RAW.
New Day vs Judgement Day
Finn Balor and JD McDonough would defend their titles for the first time since they won them back in June as the New Day looks to win their 13th tag title in the WWE. The match would turn into chaos though as the Judgement Day would look to use the number game until the LWO would come out to help. Kofi Kingston would join in on the outside drama as he’d jump out of the ring and take out everyone outside the ring. Xavier Woods in this moment would pin JD McDonough but the referee would be distracted by the commotion outside and wouldn’t be able to count to three. When the referee was back in the ring it was too late as JD was able to tag in Finn Balor who would hit the Coup De Grace to get the win. Xavier Woods would show his frustration as he would lash out at Kofi Kingston post-match. The drama would continue as backstage Woods was found yelling at the LWO telling them not to get involved with their matches Kofi would reveal it was his idea as Kofi would talk about Big E and how it’s now ‘just’ the two of them. Woods would hear this and get even madder at Kofi for leaving him out of the plan and how it seems like Kofi sees him as just a tag team partner.
Bronson Reed VS Braun Strowman
The scheduled match between these two monsters never truly began as Braun Strowman would throw Bronson Reed into the turnbuckle resulting in the top rope coming flying off before the bell had rung. The two didn’t care though as Braun would chokeslam Bronson out of the ring as Braun would then look for a freight train as Reed would then throw someone from the crowd at Strowman. Braun would keep going though and tackle Reed into the timekeeper’s area. Despite security trying to separate them the two would end up battling backstage as security and golf carts went flying as cameras got taken out. The two would finally stop after Braun Strowman tackled Bronson Reed through a wall and the two weren’t able to continue. Another chaotic match between the two as the only real options that the WWE can go with now is some kind of extreme rules match such as a falls count anywhere match or something similar.
Ludwig Kaiser confronts Sami Zayn
Sami Zayn would come out and interrupt Ludwig Kaiser who was talking to Adam Pearce backstage as Gunther remains without a challenger for his World Heavyweight Championship. Sami would once again call out Gunther bringing up Bret Hart last week and how he beat Gunther at WrestleMania. Kaiser would come out to the ring and tell Sami that he doesn’t deserve a title match against Gunther as his win was a miracle and that Gunther is trying to save Sami from embarrassment. Sami Zayn would try and get into Kaiser’s head by telling him that he doesn’t need to be Gunther’s mouthpiece which would bring Gunther out to the ring. Gunther would ask Kaiser if there’s anything he wants to talk about but Kaiser would take out Sami as Gunther would once again deny Sami’s challenge. As Gunther was walking away Sami would prove himself again by taking out Kaiser in the ring with a Helluva kick. It’s only a matter of time until Zayn gets his match and if he can beat Kaiser next week it will likely earn Zayn a title match.
Iyo Sky Vs Bianca Belair
With Kairi Sane still having an eye injury Iyo Sky would take her place against Bianca Belair as Damage CTRL look to get their opportunity for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. This match was great with lots of back and forth as the chemistry between Bianca and Iyo in the ring always provides some of the greatest matches in the WWE Women’s division today. The match would end no differently as Iyo would dive at Bianca outside the ring until Bianca threw Iyo back into the ring and went to the top rope. Bianca would meet the knees of Iyo Sky who then went to the top rope, but Bianca Belair would look to set up a KOD. Iyo Sky would be able to reverse the move though and roll up Bianca Belair to get the win for Damage CTRL in a well-deserved win for Iyo Sky. After the match, both the commentators Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore would comment on how great the match was as Iyo shows she is still world title and tag title material.
Other Highlights:
- CM Punk is prepared to die in Hell in a Cell against Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood
- Natalya defeats Zoe Stark
- Finn Balor talks to Rhea and tells her she’s just as bad as Damian when Rhea tells him just how much she loved the Judgement Day
- Jey Uso comes for Bron Breakker telling him the match is going to be short and sweet like Breakker’s NFL career as Bron Breakker gets speared by Jey.
Dominic Mysterio vs Damian Priest
The main event of the show was Damian Priest facing Dominic Mysterio as he looked to brutalise Dominic via Rhea’s orders. Priest would dominate most of the match with Dom only ever putting on some offence when the Judgement Day helped. The Judgement Day would interfere too many times though as Rhea would tackle Liv over the commentary table as they’d take out Wade Barrett. Priest would then take out the rest of the Judgement Day as he’d get back into the ring and stop a surge from Dom as he’d hit the South of Heave Choke Slam and win the match. As usual, the Judgement Day would stop any celebrating and attack Damian Priest and Rhea until Jey Uso attempted to make the save but Bron Breakker would come out and Spear Uso leaving the Terror Twins helpless to the Judgement Day’s assault. The Judgement Day’s newfound strength is making them seem like a more serious team as they leave more questions about the results at Bad Blood between Rhea VS Liv and Damian VS Finn.
Another great show by Raw with great matches and storyline progression. As Bad Blood continues to take shape over the next couple of weeks it will be important to pay attention to feuds such as the Terror Twins VS Judgement Day as well as Sami Zayn and Gunther’s feud. The growing storyline with Damage CTRL challenging Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill continues to build interest in the Women’s Tag Division and the ever-growing showdown between the two monsters Braun Strowman and Bronson Reed is a must-watch.
