Jon Moxleys New Character to be Based off Australian Film
On the August 29th episode of AEW Dynamite Jon Moxley debuted a new character which is apparently based on an Australian film.
Moxley whose last appearance in AEW was on the 30th of June at the Forbidden Door PPV finally made his return to AEW programming with a cryptic new character. The character has not done much as of yet other than teasing future involvement with Darby Allin and potentially being linked to a larger storyline with Moxley alluding to new ownership of AEW. He also has Marina Shafir by his side but the exact direction of the character and storyline has not been made clear as of yet.
On an episode of “Wrestler Observer Live” Bryan Alvarez claimed that this new character is based off the 1992 Australian cult classic “Romper Stomper” with Moxley taking inspiration from the main character of the film Hando who is played by Russel Crowe. The film was critically acclaimed and was number one at the Australian box office when it was released, it has garnered a cult following internationally as well. The film also had a sequel in the form of a Stan original which was released in 2018.
The film is about a gang of Neo Nazis who are displeased with the increasing population of Vietnamese people in their suburb Footscray, Hando is the leader of this group.
As of now it’s not clear what exact elements will be implemented into Moxley’s new character. But it seems unlikely that the nazi aspects of the film will be present in AEW’s version of the storyline.
This also is not the first time Moxley has been involved in a storyline that has taken inspiration from a film as apparently his feud with CM Punk was inspired by ‘Rocky III”.
