WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr Competes In Deathmatch On Anniversary Of Brother’s Passing
At eighty-three years of age, former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion and WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr has competed in a deathmatch on the anniversary of the passing of his brother Terry Funk.
The contest took place in Japan for the Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling-Explosion (FMW-E) promotion during the FMW-E Terry Funk Memorial & Atsushi Onita 50th Anniversary event on August 24th. The “Double Hell Current Explosion Deathmatch” featured Dory Jr teaming alongside Osamu Nishimura, who is actively battling stage four cancer, against the team of Atsushi Onita and Raijin Yaguchi. The total age of these competitors totals two-hundred and sixty-two years of age with Funk being the oldest, Onita second at sixty-six, Yaguchi third at sixty-one and Nishimura rounding it up at fifty-two.
The match gained traction amongst the international wrestling community as images were shared of Dory Jr taking an electrified bat to the back. Funk and Nishimura were victorious, with this being Dory Funk Jr’s first match since 2018.
