Bobby Lashley Moved To WWE Alumni Section As Contract Nears Expiration
Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley has had a rocky first half of 2024, with injuries and surgeries keeping him out of the ring for much of the year. Lashley’s most recent match was this past May, at a WWE Live Event in France against Santos Escobar.
During the match with Escobar, a self described “freak accident” lead to Lashley needing surgery. He did not specify what the surgery was for, but explained that he was told he would be out for six months.
While sitting down with The Laboratory with Plaz podcast, Lashley spoke on the process of his recovery:
I had surgery. A little boo boo, happened in France during a match. Just a freak accident. They told me I wasn’t supposed to be back for six months. Six weeks, I have the brace off, working out. My physical therapist was like, ‘You’re not supposed to be able to do that.’ ‘I’m different.’ I’m working out and lifting. I don’t think I’m two months out of surgery now and I’m hitting it pretty hard. I think I’ll be ready and cleared in less than a month. At that time, we’ll see what happens.

While seemingly optimistic about an in-ring return, it appears an agreement has not been made in regards to his contract as Lashley has been moved to the alumni section of WWE’s roster page.
During the interview, Lashley also laid out his goals for the future outside of wrestling, including alluding to an upcoming boxing match:
I love to be able to push myself to do things that are ridiculous. I set goals for myself every day. What can I do? How far can I push myself? How much can I do? I want to run a marathon. I’m going to try to do that pretty soon. I’ll do jiu-jitsu, I’m going to try and win a world championship in jiu-jitsu. I’m going to do a boxing match. We’ve already talked about this boxing match. I might have an opportunity to do it. I’m boxing somebody in Vegas. There is an opponent.

Outside of wrestling, Bobby Lashley possesses a professional MMA record of fifteen victories and two defeats. Having competed for promotions such as Strikeforce, Titan FC and Bellator MMA. Despite being forty-eight years of age, a keen interest in keeping in peak athletic physical condition indicates a return to combat sports, whether it be boxing, jiu-jitsu or mixed martial arts as a real possibility for Lashley, should his time with WWE comes to an end.
