21/07 – 27/7.

This week I aim to present the main events that happened throughout the years in a particular week.

This week I am looking at the 21st of July to the 27th of July.

1978 – In a 2 out 3 falls match, WWWF Champion Bob Backlund faced off with Antonio Inoki where the third fall went to a time limit draw after the time limit for the match expired.

1984 – In the only match to be broadcast from the WWF’ Brawl to End It All, Wendy Richter was victorious over WWF’s Women’s Champion the Fabulous Moolah for the title.
This moment was significant in the Rock ’N’ Wrestling era during the 1980’s as it marked the start of appearances from stars from the entertainment industry at wrestling events.

1986 – Dusty Rhodes was victorious over NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair in a steel cage match.
This would be Rhodes last world championship however Flair would win the belt back 2 weeks later.

1989 – WCW held the first ever Great American Bash.
The main event featured NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair facing off against Terry Funk with Flair keeping hold of the title.

1993 – On WWF’s Monday Night Raw, Jim Cornette made his WWF debut and was revealed as the American spokesman for WWF Champion Yokozuna.

1995 – WWF held the second In Your House Pay Per View with a main event lumberjack match between WWF Champion Diesel and Sid with Diesel retaining the title.

On the same night, Shawn Michaels was victorious over Jeff Jarrett for his third WWF Intercontinental Championship.

1996 – Shawn Michaels and Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson faced The Smoking Guns for the WWF Tag Team titles.
During the match Johnson was attacked by Farooq which resulted in Johnson missing a WWF title match at Summerslam due to injury.

1999 – For the first time in WWE history, four titles changed hands at the Fully Loaded Pay Per View.
Jeff Jarrett was victorious over Edge for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
The Acolytes triumphed over The Hardy Boyz for the WWE Tag Team titles. D-Lo Brown was victorious over Mideon for the European title Big Boss Man won a hardcore match for the Hardcore Championship.

2000 – The third and final WWE Fully Loaded was held in Dallas, Texas.
The Rock was victorious over Chris Benoit even though Benoit had won the title as a result of a DQ which was a stipulation of the match however RAW Commissioner Mick Foley restarted the match allowing The Rock to retain the title.

2000 – One of the best-known colour commentators in wrestling history, Gordon Solie, passed away from throat cancer aged 71.
Solie had worked for Georgia Championship Wrestling and WCW.

2001 – The woman known as Bertha Faye in WWF during the 1980’s, Rhonda Singh, passed away in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
After working in Japan and Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling, Singh was victorious over Alundra Blayze before departing WWF for WCW.

One of the most historic WWE PPV’s occurred with WWE Invasion.
What made this Pay Per View significant was that it featured stars from WWE, ECW and WCW for the first time on the same night.

2012 – The 1000th episode of WWE RAW was held in St Louis Missouri.
This episode began the 3-hour format for RAW and was seen by a viewing audience of 6 million.

2015 – At ROH Death Before Dishonor XIII, the ROH World Championship match resulted in a time limit draw between Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong.

The King of the Mountain Championship was won by PJ Black at a TNA TV taping in Orlando, Florida.

2018 – Impact Wrestling held its annual Pay Per View Slammiversary XVI from Toronto Canada.
Brian Cage was victorious over Matt Sydal for the X-Division Championship.

2019 – WWE conducted a special RAW reunion episode.
