The Wrestlers Wrestling With Ability

The Wrestlers Wrestling with Ability is a short documentary for the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival out of Sydney that focuses on wrestling and people that have Asperger’s or are on the spectrum in the wrestling industry. The key person that it focuses on is myself, as I happen to have Asperger’s Syndrome and am a professional wrestler. What I want to do with this film is get it out there that this is a very big thing that exists in the wrestling industry and a lot of people have some form of Asperger’s/Autism Spectrum. I want it to connect to those who might feel stuck or lost along their journey into the industry or those that are just a part of the wrestling community around Australia.
I hope that it can inspire those who want to push to pursue their dreams or make them realise that you’re capable of anything that you set your mind to. I want it to help people outside of having it too because we all are our worst critics and all now and again have our doubts.
The film will be available to watch via YouTube through the focus on ability YouTube page August 7th and you can vote for this film if you like it through the external link for the film festival. When you vote just make sure if you like it to confirm your email address. The awards this year are up to $100,000 all around the categories. For my submission in the short documentary section it’s about five grand and some mentorship through a documentary filmmaker.
There’s also an award for most online votes. So plenty of opportunities to get this movie seen and to get the message out. I’ve been making movies most of my life and I feel this one was a very cathartic experience because I got a lot of my frustrations and insecurities out in the open because I know a lot of people live with the struggle with these things especially overthinking.
