ALL ELITE WEEKLY (25/7/24-28/7/24)
Welcome back to All Elite Weekly the series where we recap all the action that took place on AEW TV programming from last week. This week was the second week in a row that there was a special episode of Dynamite with last week being the 250th anniversary and this week being the Blood and Guts special, the biggest PPV of the year ALL IN is also quickly approaching so build for that is starting to ramp up too. This week also had an extra hour of AEW programming through the Battle of the Belts XI TV special.
DYNAMITE BLOOD AND GUTS
- The show opened with a backstage segment with Alex Marvez who is awaiting Will Ospreay in a hotel carpark as Ospreay is in the carpark he realises his tyre has been slashed, Ospreay takes Marvez’s car keys and the two race off to Dynamite together
- In the next segment MJF comes to the ring accompanied by cheerleaders in USA colours, MJF then criticises Ospreay for hesitating to use the Tiger Driver 91 and also the crowd for supporting him, he then challenges Ospreay to come to the ring knowing he cannot because MJF slashed his tyres
- MJF then begins to criticise the International title calling it worthless and claims nobody from outside USA matters he then places the title in a bin, MJF then reveals a new title to replace the international championship brandishing it the American title, he then implies the only part of America that matter is Long Island
- Red, white and blue streamers then fly in the air and a USA flag with MJF’s face replacing the stars is then draped from the ceiling, Ospreay then storms the ring and chases MJF out of the ring stopping his coronation, Ospreay gets on the mic and claims the only reason he won was because he cheated, he then informs MJF that Ospreay has got a rematch at ALL IN
- As Ospreay is leaving the ring he takes the International Championship out of the bin
- In a backstage segment The Elite have surrounded and attacked Christopher Daniels they then force the ref to accept a rigged coin flip giving The Elite the advantage in the Blood and Guts match
- Jericho vs Suzuki is next for the FTW championship, after a brutal match with a extreme amount of chops Jericho sneaks the victory after the match Jericho, Big Bill and Bryan Keith attack Suzuki, they are then chased away by Shibata
- In a backstage interview Bryan Danielson discusses the upcoming title match at ALL IN, Jeff Jarret interrupts and gives Danielson some advice
- Next up is Britt Baker vs Hikaru Shida, Baker beats her long-time rival, but after the match Mercedes Mone enters the arena and tells Baker that she will not give her a shit at the TBS title
- Baker then gets attacked by a debuting Kamille who has aligned herself with Mone, Kamille then raises Mone’s hand over a lifeless Baker
- Mariah May is up next having a match against a enhancement talent after easily winning a disguised Toni Storm reveals herself in the ring security separates the two, the Storm grabs a mic and asks May if she’s prepared to die
- The main event was the Blood and Guts match between Team AEW and The Elite, with The Acclaimed, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin and Swerve Strickland representing AEW and The Young Bucks, Okada, Jack Perry and Hangman Adam Page representing The Elite
- Darby Allin and Jack Perry are the first two in the ring as the Elite got the advantage, they have their team members entering the ring first so when a new member is introduced Team AEW is at a disadvantage
- The last member for Team AEW to enter is Hangman but as his music hits his nowhere to be seen, When Swerve enters for AEW Hangman charges him with a steel chair and handcuffs Swerve to the outside, the rest of The Elite get frustrated with Hangman only caring about hurting Swerve and not winning the match, this interaction sets up tension between Hangman and Okada
- Once Hangman’s enters the Young Bucks force the refs to start the match even though Swerve was handcuffed outside
- After the match went on for a bit with The Elite having the numbers advantage Jeff Jarret and Billy Gunn come to the ring and uncuff Swerve and help him into the cage
- Eventually Team AEW gain the advantage and Darby Allin convince The Elite to surrender giving Team AEW the victory
RAMPAGE
- The major match that took place on Rampage this week was the Royal Rampage, a 20 man battle royal for a shot at the AEW World Championship at Dynamite Grand Slam
- Jeff Jarret is attacked by Hangman during the Battle Royal despite not being in the match because of this Jarrett is easily eliminated
- Darby Allin wins the royal after eliminating Claudio Castagnoli
COLLISION
- In the opening match of Collision Orange Cassidy beats Johnny TV after the match Taya Valkyrie and TV attack Cassidy but are interrupted by Willow Nightingale
- Hologram beats The Beast Mortos in his second match via rollup after an entertaining match
- FTR have their first match since their return against MXM (FKA Maximum Male Models) in their debut in AEW, FTR win the match via Shatter Machine
- Main event is Pac vs Lio Rush, Pac wins via the Brutaliser
- BATTLE OF THE BELTS XI
- The Battle of the belts special contained three matches with two title eliminator matches and one title match
- The first match was Toni Storm (c) vs Taya Valkyrie for in a AEW women’s Championship eliminator, Toni Storm won via Storm Zero
- Toni Storm then cuts a promo explaining why Mariah May betraying her hurt her so much, but then claims that May made a mistake by not cutting her head off when she betrayed her,
- The second match was Deonna Purrazo vs Willow Nightingale (C) in a CMLL Women’s championship eliminator
- During the match Taya Valkyrie came out holding a turnbuckle and tried to give it to Purrazo but is stopped by Thunder Rosa after this Nightingale wins via a Powerbomb
- The Main event is to crown new ROH World Six Man Tag team Championships, Dustin Rhodes and the Von Erichs being accompanied by Kevin Von Erichs are the first challengers and the second being the Undisputed Kingdom (Roderick Strong, Mike Bennett and Matt Taven)
- Bennett hits Rhodes with a cowbell whilst the ref is distracted but Dustin somehow kicks out
- Taven and Strong then start to pull out a number of steel chairs but Shibata then rushes out and puts Taven in a Iron Claw, Kevin Von Erich then does the same to Strong whilst this is happening it enables Rhodes and the Von Erich’s to out number Bennett and pin him to become new champions, all the faces in the locker room come out to celebrate with the new champions
