It was during Iyo Sky’s defence of the WWE Women’s Championship that we saw the return of Kairi Sane, who assisted Sky in her defeat of Belair. The former NXT Women’s and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion had been released from her WWE contract in December of 2021, eventually returning to Japan to compete for the likes of New Japan Pro Wrestling and STARDOM. Sane became the inaugural IWGP Women’s Champion during her time in Japan before she lost the belt to another former WWE talent, Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE.
