In sad news in the Australian wrestling community, Bassem “Bass” Abousaid has passed away. Bassem was a ring announcer and commentator mainly working in the Victorian wrestling scene for Melbourne City Wrestling, Professional Championship Wrestling, Battle Championship Wrestling and many others over years. Bass was well known for his great voice and wide collection of colorful suits. We here at pwdownunder send our condolences to his family and friends.
Several wrestling personalities shared memories and thoughts on facebook..
“Everytime we got to work together over the last 20 years was nothing but laughs and good times (…it was NEVER actual “work”!!!) Still you were always an absolute pro! Always such a dear and sweet friend who I will always cherish. Loved by me and everyone who knew you…
I will miss you, Bass. We will all miss you.” – Julian James
“We spent a lot of time together as Bass drove my unlicensed arse to all manner of wrestling shows over the years, while we did what all Scenesters do when they’re together: which is to talk about how everyone else is stupid and only WE know exactly how things should be run. And I wish that he didn’t feel like he had to go. And I wish everybody everywhere was okay. And I wish that you could save everyone. But you can’t.” – Krackerjack
